Jeruzalem wine route – a one-day hike

The trip is not tiresome and an average traveller will spend two and half hours for it, but with so many caterers and sights along the way, you may wish to reserve an extra hour or two for it. The path takes you amidst rounded vine-covered hills offering magnificent views everywhere you look; a paradise for photographers.

Start your trip in Jeruzalem, a town with a sacred name where you can see the famous pilgrims’ Church of the Mother of Sorrows, take a stroll there and rest in the beautiful park surrounding the Dvorec Jeruzalem.

Continue along the path and you may break your walk a short while after at the Hotel Sibon for some refreshments. Then slowly descend to the valley, where you will be captivated by the smell of excellent cuisine coming from the nearby Ratek Open Winegrowing Farm, where you can taste fine wines.

Amidst the vineyards, you then descend to a tranquil valley, but soon after ascend again on top of a hill to approach yet another beautiful village of Svetinje. There you can cool down and freshen up at the nearby PEPS HOUSE wine bar. The path amidst vineyards and the beauty of gently undulating landscape will take your breath away.

On the last part of the journey from Svetinje towards Jeruzalem, you can freshen up at the well-known Taverna guesthouse and see the Malek vineyard cottage in its direct proximity. The walls of this 300-year-old vineyard cottage harbour a chapel, a small ethnology museum with an old winepress and a cellar where you can try premium white wines originating in the vineyards along the way.

On your way back, accompanied by the setting sun sinking amidst the vine-covered hills, you will see there is a reason why the place is called Jeruzalem, as there is truly something holy about it.
